Marvin L. Cohen – 2017 Laureate of The Franklin Institute in Physics

The 2017 Benjamin Franklin Medal in Physics goes to Marvin L. Cohen. Cohen currently serves as University Professor of Physics at the University of California at Berkeley and Senior Faculty Scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. In 2005, Cohen became President of the American Physical Society. A paramount in Cohen’s career is his work mentoring a large number of graduate and post-doctoral students, many of whom now occupy prominent positions in leading universities in the U.S. and across the globe. Added to these achievements is the active role he has taken in the promotion of science to government and to the general public, making Marvin Cohen one of the most impactful and prolific physicists today.
